Magic
Fate is kind to some, negligent to others, and cruel to the cursed. Fate chose the third course of action on the Goblins, cursing them with an inability to use and develop traditional magic. The shamans of the Goblin Clans are thus not spell-slingers or spirit diviners but rather medicine men and distinguished elders. Unable or unwilling to cope with their lack of supernatural prowess Goblin shamans began experiment on their people, attempting various rituals and alchemy in order to enhance the Goblin people, as individuals and as a whole. Eventually a ritual was found that infused goblins with supernatural abilities, though might say it was forcibly bound to them. By drinking the blood of a creature mixed with a recipe of ingredients held as sacred knowledge by the Goblins a creature could be infused with some of their abilities, though not without cost. A goblin who had his ritual performed with a hydra's blood might gain limbs for every one it lost, but lose a portion of it's mind with each regeneration. The strain this ritual takes on the goblin body is great, with no goblin being documented as surviving the process twice, and many not surviving it once. Entire clans have formed that focus on the hunting of one creature or another, with the Stone Fists hunting gargoyles to harden their skin, or the Hissing Fang seeking the Naga to give them poison glands and slitherous forms. An Old Legend states that one day a goblin will bring the blood of a dragon for his ritual, gaining hardened scales, wings, breath of fire, and then have the strength to unite the goblin clans and usher the goblins into a Golden Age but thusfar none have returned with such a prize.

This is brilliant stuff. A divergence from the usual spellcraft stuff into an approach that really does feel 'Goblin'. Alchemy, body modification through transformation, a kind of rejection of fate in favour of making their own 'magic'. And it allows for grand variation for the goblins that do survive the process. Goblin Hunters could really be a thing.
